Never Skip Meals – if you want to Loose Weight

                      Some people think that skipping meals is a successful way to lose weight. They are wrong. Those so-called starvation diets are very unhealthy for your body. Skipping meals is bad for your body and can have serious consequence for you later in life.

If you are trying to lose weight the worst thing you can do is to skip a meal. You would only be sabotaging for yourself because that will slow down the metabolism in your body.  Metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. By having regular meals you help your metabolism to work successfully. By skipping meals your metabolism will start working slower and conserving calories (fat) for survival. Then you will gain weight instead of losing it.

You will become more likely not to receive inadequate nutrition if you are skipping meals. You can’t compensate the meals you skip by supplementing your diet with multivitamins. For good health, you should have a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meats and fish. That will help your body to function properly and  ensure that you are getting the right nutrition, which your body needs.

If you skip a meal your blood sugar will drop dramatically. This will make you feel poorly, tired and  dizzy. It can also spoil normal production of insulin in your body. Which can later in life contribute to development of diabetes.

Consequences of skipping meals can be:

  • over weight
  • altering the way that your body digests food (slow down the metabolism)
  • inadequate nutrition
  • development of diabetes
  • it can develop into anorexia or bulimia if its long-term behavior

    I’ve never had any luck with skipping meals either because I would end up eating like a savage later on in the day 😦

      That’s because your blood sugar drops and your body needs energy – then we often tend to eat chocolate or something sweet that gives instant energy boost and a lot of calories.

    It’s sooo true. If you consume less than 1200 calories/day (including exercise calories you need to eat back to get up to 1200) your body will go into starvation mode. This is great info. I think some people have been unsuccessful with weight loss because they didn’t know about this. Thanks for posting.

      Thank you Jae. You’re right for women that’s 1200 calories but for men it’s more and if you exercise you to consume more calories.

    There are few factors that influences the amount of Calories each individual should consume on daily basis. Factors like age, gender, physical activity and body type. Tall person then you must eat more calories than smaler person and those who weigh more needs more calories. So women should eat 1200 – 1500 calories if they want to loose weight an men about 1700 – 2000 calories to loose weight. But if they don’t want to loose weight they need more.
