Drink Water – for your Health

31 Oct

We have all heard that it is important to drink water but why is it so important? Did you know that water is the most important nutrient in our body?  Water is the most critical nutrient for health, growth, and development. Without water, your body would stop working properly.

Why should I drink water:.

  • Weight loss:  Drinking water helps you lose weight because it helps your body to get rid of  toxins from your body. The toxins are the unused junk that’s leftover, and our bodies remove this waste through sweat, urine, and stool. But you need to have enough fluids in your body the toxins will become more concentrated and difficult to get rid of.  Drinking water reduces hunger, therefor drinking a glass or two of water before meal can help you practice portion control.
  • Healthy skin: When your body is properly hydrated the skin will be more moisture and the elasticity of the skin will increases.
  • Helps the Digestion:  You need water to digest your food. It helps you maintain regular  bowel movements.
  • Helps building muscles: If you want to build muscle than you must keep your body well hydrated.
  • Regulates body temperature: Water helps you sweat wich is necessary function, as it regulates your body temperature.
  • Keeps you healthy: Water helps your immune system by help getting rid of wastes and bacteria that can cause disease.

How much water should you drink each day?

An average adult should drink 2.5 litres of water per day in order to stay properly hydrated. But remember that you can get your daily water requirements from sources other than pure water –  like your cup of tea or coffee. The thumb rule is that you should drink enough water to turn your urine a light-colored yellow.

If more water is lost than taken in, dehydration can occur. Dehydration will set in with headaches, tiredness and loss of concentration followed, in extreme cases kidney problems.

Drinking water is good for you but don’t overdo it. If you consume too much water it can cause over-hydration with symptoms like dizziness, nausea, apathy and confusion.

Sometimes it can be good to be reminded of things we already know.

Doctors and nutritionists do not recommend drinking more than 2.5 liters per day, except if you are exercising – then you need more. Drinking too much water is not good for the body or the bladder.
